9 federal states - 9 excursion tips

9 Bundesländer - 9 Ausflugstipps

In this blogpost, we want to show you different activities in all nine Austrian federal states - so you'll be perfectly prepared for your Austria-roadtrip!

Vienna - National Park Donau-Auen

Some parts of this national park are actually part of Vienna - which means that there's no hours-long traveling necessary. You can start many hikes at the "Nationalparkhaus Wien-Lobau". The so-called "Josefsteg", which leads directly through the reeds, is about 20 minutes away on foot. However, the national park offers countless different routes and also guided excursions.

Lower Austria - Nebelstein

The "Nebelstein" offers an amazing 360-degree view of the "Waldviertel". The hike is suitable for young and "old" outdoor enthusiasts. If you don't want to hike a lot, you can park at a parking lot called "Nebelstein Schutzhütte". Starting from there, it's only a 10 minute walk to the top of the mountain.

Upper Austria - Grünberg

The "Grünberg" in Gmunden is perfect for all ages. You can either hike up the almost 1,000 meters high mountain, but you can also comfortably ride the cable car. On top of the mountain you can find the "Salzkammergut Treetop-Walk". You can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Traunsee and the surrounding mountains. If you want, you could also hike more and visit the "Laudachsee". This hake also takes about 1 hour.

Burgenland - Weinblick am Eisenberg

From this observation platform you can not only see the Burgenland, but also Hungary form above. The name "Weinblick" basically means "wine view" since you can see many vineyards from above. If you want to learn more about wine, there's a museum called "Weinmuseum Moschendorf" nearby.

Whether it's hiking, climbing, mountain biking, rafting - the possibilities are almost endless. There's lots of activities for rainy days as well - and the world famous "Stiftsbibliothek Admont" is also nearby.
